George Washington left no known lineal descendents. He did, however, have a nephew. Justice Bushrod Washington lived in the giant shadow cast by his Uncle George. Unfortunately for him that shadow seems to have obscured Bushrod Washington's life. Little is known about Justice Washington other than that he served on the United States Supreme Court.

Before we pity him too much we must also suspect that his rise to the high court may have had something to do with his relationship to George. Justice Washington was appointed by President John Adams, a man who would have gladly accepted George Washington as his King.
