Take Home Essay Component of Midterm #1 – Fall 2003

As discussed in class on Thursday, September 11, 2003, the take home component of Midterm Exam #1 will consist of a 2 to 3 page, double-spaced essay on one or two key words chosen from the end of Chapters 1, 2, 3, or 5. The key terms appear on pages 20, 43, 68, and 110 of the text. The essay is due on our Midterm #1 test day on Tuesday, September 16 at 2:30 PM for the Tuesday/Thursday 2:30 – 3:45 PM class, and on Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 PM for the Thursday evening 7:00 to 9:50 class.

Your task is to describe the key term or terms of your choice in your own words, find an article or articles that further develop the concept behind the term(s), and summarize the content of the article(s) in the context of the term(s). Please attach a copy of your article(s) to your essay.

As we discussed, an excellent place to start is the library’s web site. Go to “find articles” and conduct a key word search in one of the on-line publication bases, such as Infotrac or Inspire. Articles from technical journals, print media (newspapers) are all acceptable. Internet sources on information are also acceptable. In all cases, please provide a complete reference to your article if it does not appear on your attachment.

Remember that the in-class Midterm exam #1 (closed book) to held on Tuesday September 16 (Tues/Thurs. class), and Thursday September 18 (Thursday evening) is based on the text and lectures, and review questions for chapters 1, 2, 3, and 5. It will consist of 40 multiple choice questions.
